This is Our Story and how we learned of Peoples Funeral Home and eventually became the new owners. In 1991, John started Professional Removal Service a transport service to mortuaries. While attending Gupton - Jones College, John became employed with Donald Trimble Mortuary, Sellers Brothers Funeral Homes, and later with Gus Thornhill's Funeral Home. John began his career in 1977, with Williams Funeral Home and Williams Progresssive Life Insurance Company in Opelousas, Louisiana as an Insurance Agent.He was also employed with Melancon Life Insurance Company until re-locating to Atlanta, GA in 1988, where he attended Gupton-Jones College of Funeral Service. In November of 2007,Peoples Funeral Home was acquired by John R.Taylor and wife Johnnie Taylor where they continue to provide service with Care, Compassion and Dedication. Geneva and family members operated the business until she retired. The business continued operation until Commissioner Oscar Davis, Sr. the brother of Augustus, then operated the business for some years until it was sold to Mr. Austin operated the business until his passing in 1968. It has always been our motto at Peoples to serve with the utmost care. He attended Shiloh Baptist Church where he served faithfully.įor sixty - five years, Peoples Funeral Home continues to serve families in Baldwin, Hancock, Jones, Putnam and other surrounding counties with dignity and respect. His desire was to be the best in service. Austin a prominent businessman in the community owned and operated A & A Café in downtown Milledgeville. It all began on September 1, 1953, that Peoples Funeral Home was founded by Augustus "Gus" Austin in Milledgeville, Georgia.
